New Hampshire-based artist Kiera Reese experiments with the process of photography to compare and better understand mechanical and biological vision. She earned her MFA from Lesley University, College of Art and Design in 2015 and her BFA at New Hampshire Institute of Art, magna cum laude, in 2012. Reese’s process includes digital manipulation, inkjet printing on non-traditional substrates, such as untreated fabrics, and glass transfers, as well as incorporating historical photographic processes, including the camera obscura, film processes and cyanotypes. Reese’s work plays with the intersection between the analog and the digital, and the physical and ephemeral.
Recent group exhibitions include Alternative Process Photography in New Hampshire, At Home in the World in Massachusetts, and Contemporary Landscapes in New York. Reese also teaches photographic techniques, both analogue and digital, to students in New Hampshire.
As technology becomes interwoven in daily life, Reese probes what this means for how we perceive our world, both literally through mechanical lenses and digital displays, as well as conceptually through our understanding of time and how digital tools upend the traditional narrative approach to information.
